love. your. neighbour.

This is a year when I have been called to do simple things.... to love my neighbour and myself. Why? To be.... Human. Compassionate. Gracious.

Sunday, March 29

It's 2009... A new year, a new school.

Everything is over for all from Class 609, 2008.

I must say that I'm very proud of all of you even though a few of you didn't make it to a secondary school.  It's all about doing your best which most of you did.

Well done!

I pray that you will continue to excel in all you do in a new school.
A new chapter in your life.

Remember to always love those around you.
You will never be too poor to give love.
We cannot afford not to.
It is through loving others that we find love for ourselves.
Think about it.
Try it.

While I was away.... at the National Institute of Education (NIE)

NIE is part of the Nanyang Technological University. All teachers have to be trained in NIE. It is situated in Jalan Bahar. It is almost right at the western tip of Singapore. I take the MRT train to Boon Lay and take a bus from the bus interchange to NIE. I enjoyed the ride on most days, especially when I had a seat. I would usually do some reading.

I had so much fun while I was away learning to become a better teacher and helper in the school. I have learnt a lot by attending lessons and lectures. The lecturers and tutors werewonderful in the way they taught. I thought a lot more and started to ask more questions than before. I think the most important things I have learnt are that I really need to read more to be a good teacher and question about what I see, feel, do or think.

Daily routine from July to mid-September: Two lessons per day daily. 9am and 1.30pm. Each lasted for 3 hours with a half an hour break in the middle.

Daily routine from mid-September to October: Very often two lessons on Monday and Tuesday, a morning lesson on Thursday and a full day on Friday. It meant that I had an off day on Wednesday and half a day of off on Thursday.

Part of the course required me to go on an overseas trip. My team was supposed to go to India initially but due to the bombs going off in different cities there, we decided to ask for a change in venue. I was actually all ready to go there to buy Punjabi suits and shawls!! What a disappointment! I knew I might not go there for a holiday in the near future so I thought I could take this opportunity to visit India.

The person-in-charge of the course gave us two choices, New Zealand or Australia. The other team wanted to go to New Zealand so we took Australia. So Sydney it was. I had a wonderful time there. It was chilly as the temperature ranged from 10 degrees to 18 degrees. There were two sunny days with a clear sky while the rest of the days were cloudy. It poured on the last day we were there.

Here are some photos...

The three of us making memories at Terminal 3.
My first time there.
It was 12.20am on 30th September, Friday night.
I want to thank those of you who sent me messages that night wishing me a good time in Australia. It was thoughtful of you!

Taking a break after some shopping!

These are my team mates. Ten of us.
One of us was taking the picture.
We were having a fish-and-chip lunch by the harbour.

Taking a picture with the Sydney Harbour Bridge
without knowing that we would climb it.

I will be showing you more pictures we took and telling you more about the schools I visited.
Look out for a new post and see what I have put up when you are free!

It's been a while already...

Class 609!

I was sick for a while and busy with preparing you for the coming examinations.  I have not been able to do much here.  However I must say that I am glad that I have dispatched some digital homework to you last Friday.  I know you will be able to do them as they are real super short revision exercises.

How are you feeling now that SA1 is round the corner?
Be smart and prepare for it.  It would also help prepare you for the PSLE.
Remember...
'Work while it's still day; night will come when no man can work'.
Don't miss the opportunity to do well. Not for your parents or teachers but for yourself.
You CAN do it....        Hope + Hard Work = No U grades!

Announcement:
The winners for the 'Guess-the-Object' Quiz are.....
....... Mokara & Jomin!!
Congratulations!
It is a door stopper.
{You'll receive your prize very soon}

I will be uploading the camp pictures very soon.
Come back soon and look at them.

Share your thoughts....

When I logged into blogger, I was excited to see that there were two thoughts waiting for me to moderate (look up the meaning in yourdictionary.com).  I was happy that one of you actually did your homework (the one on 'I can love myself') but you forgot to leave your name.  Kindly let me know who you are.  It seems you have posted that thought at about 5 plus this evening.

Class, feel free to share your thoughts about what I write here.  Or you can also write your own thoughts about something, which you would like to share with me, totally different.  For example, you might want to share about how you feel about the pictures I have put up on SL Training Day.

Don't you think the pictures are fantastic??!!  I enjoy looking at them.  What about you?

So..... just 2 things for you to remember.

(1) Sign off with your name after you have shared in my blog
(2) Feel free to share in my blog your comments/thoughts/feelings.
